View this email in your browser   May 26, 2022 Celebrating the Stewart Park Carousel! The Stewart Park Carousel opens for the season this Saturday, May 28th, and Friends of Stewart Park is happy to announce that it will be free to ride all of Memorial Day weekend, thanks to a sponsorship from Elizabeth Ann Clune Montessori School of Ithaca.  For more information about the carousel, visit www.stewartpark.org/carousel-page. On Saturday, June 25th, the Stewart Park Carousel turns 70, and Friends of Stewart Park invites you and your family to join us for a birthday celebration including Nate the Great, carousel-themed crafts, cupcakes, and of course, free rides!  From 2:00 pm-4:00 pm. The event is FREE! The 70th birthday party will feature photographs about the carousel's history party and welcoming remarks by FSP's Executive Director Rick Manning. Because partying in the rain is never as fun, the party will be moved to Sunday, June 26th in case of inclement weather.  Learn more. This event is supported by the Tompkins County Tourism Program. SPONSOR THE CAROUSEL Last year, FSP’s Centennial Free Carousel Days were an undeniable hit! Carousel Operators tabulated over 20,000 free rides were taken over the summer! I Love My Park Day 2022 was successful thanks to the approximately 45 wonderful volunteers who came out to clean, mulch and landscape. Thanks so much to Mighty Yoga, Cornell's Kappa Sigma and Dyson School Undergrads, and all the other hard working folks who helped prepare Stewart Park for a fantastic summer.  MORE PARK & TRAIL NEWS BIRD WALK Join Cayuga Bird Club’s Jody Enck for the guided spring bird walk in Stewart Park for 2022, happening the Saturday June 18 at 9:00am. Bring your binoculars, dress for the weather, and meet at the Cascadilla Boathouse for a fun family-friendly time. Help spread the word. Share the event on Facebook. QUIET ON THE SET FILM FESTIVAL Join Wharton Studio Museum on Saturday, June 4, at 2:00pm at Cinemapolis in downtown Ithaca for its Quiet on the Set! student film festival screening and awards ceremony. Free and open to all!  SAVE THE DATE: SILENT MOVIE UNDER THE STARS Saturday, August 20. FSP's partner in revitalization Wharton Studio Museum invites you to its 12th Annual Silent Movie Under the Stars at Taughannock Falls State Park on Saturday, August 20th! Don't miss this popular end-of-summer screening of a silent film with live musical accompaniment under the night sky.  WSM thanks M&T Bank,  Presenting Sponsor of Silent Movie Under the Stars, for its support.  Silent Movie Under the Stars is produced in partnership with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
