Cascadilla Boathouse Restoration is an ongoing, multi-phase process. Built starting in 1894 and completed in 1896, the Cascadilla Boathouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
On October 21, 2021 Historic Ithaca hosted an lovely ribbon cutting for the newly restored Cascadilla Boathouse. Thanks to Susan Holland, Diana Riesman of FSP and Wharton Studio Museum, and Mayor Svante Myrick for lovely remarks. The building's siding and trim has been replaced or restored, the entire exterior was repainted, flooring replaced on the veranda and more. We are thrilled with the work of Bero Architecture, Bouley Associates, Verdigree Collective /Julie Kitson Construction Management, and Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects on this important project.
The restoration work was made possible by a $367,000 grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The grant was written by Historic Ithaca, with additional support from the City of Ithaca and Friends of Stewart Park.
Next up for the historic building, potential restoration of the second floor.
The City replaced the building’s roof in 2015, and an interpretive panel recounting the building’s history was installed on its exterior in 2013.
