Stewart Park Splash Pad and Bathroom Opens

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Friends of Stewart Park cut the ribbon on the new Splash Pad and Playground Bathrooms in Stewart Park!

Thanks to speakers designer Steve Lauzun, Mayor Rob Cantelmo, Community Foundation's Gloria Coicou, Fred Bonn of NY State Parks, Assemblymember Anna Kelles, Greg Mezey of the Tompkins County Legislature and Strategic Tourism Planning Board, and Stacey Dimas, chief of staff to Senator Lea Webb, and FSP's Diana Riesman and Rick Manning.

Thank you to Edger Enterprises, Inc., Taitem Engineering, all the incredible folks at the City of Ithaca, New York, and a huge thank you to Parkitectscts’ KJ Armstrong and Nathan for designing a splash pad that’s brings so much joy to so many children!

The splash pad is open now, though tomorrow will be the "Grand Opening" as its first full day in operation, with free carousel rides to help you all dry off!

July 2, 2024 View this email in your browser The new Stewart Park Splash Pad’s first full day is the 4th of July! Come play! Get wet! Cool off! In honor of the grand opening of the new Splash Pad and Playground Bathroom, as well as Stewart Park’s 103rd birthday, there will be free carousel rides all day sponsored by Friends of Stewart Park! FSP is hosting a ribbon cutting for the Splash Pad and Playground Bathroom this Wednesday, July 3rd, with remarks by representatives from the City of Ithaca, Tompkins County, and New York State. A huge thank you to Parkitects and Edger Enterprises for all their hard work on this big project! The Stewart Park Splash Pad was made possible by an Environmental Protection Fund grant administered by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and support from New York State through Assemblymember Anna Kelles; Tompkins County Tourism Program; the City of Ithaca, and private donations. Thank you to everyone who supported this project! Summer in Stewart Park means Carousel rides! And we've got a number of FREE CAROUSEL DAYS coming up! This Thursday, July 4, the Carousel will be sponsored by Friends of Stewart Park, and Saturday July 6 rides will be free in honor of Laura’s Birthday! The Carousel is open Tuesday-Sunday, from 11-7 (plus holiday Mondays). Friends of Stewart Park is grateful to everyone who has signed on to sponsor the carousel this year, providing thousands of free rides to happy kids! Phoebe and her family are frequent visitors to the park. Discover the park's fascinating history and get an inside look at its current revitalization. Wear your most comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. The event is free, but registration is required. Donations are always welcome! The good news is that our funding will be in place for next year, so we’ll plan an extra wonderful Watermusic for 2025! Thank you for your understanding, and see you then!
