20 years on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail

Winter is rolling along with darn cold days and endless snow, then teasing us with spring-like temperatures, and then back to well, you know. Through it all, FSP is feeling warm and happy to be sharing celebratory news about the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, hiring, upcoming spring cleanups, and happenings from our partners in revitalization.

You're invited to join Friends of Stewart Park Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a light-hearted look back at 20 years of trail making:  the good, the bad, and... the surprisingly challenging!  In this free virtual event, former Tompkins Chamber President Jean McPheeters and FSP Executive Director Rick Manning will offer up a scintillating presentation about Ithaca's waterfront history and the trails that inspired the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, as well as a behind-the scenes look at the intrigue of planning and constructing our beloved Cayuga Waterfront Trail.

The Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative (CWTI) is now managed by Friends of Stewart Park in partnership with the City of Ithaca. Registration is required for the Zoom.

Did you miss last month's presentation, Up & Down, Round & Round, Stewart Park's Historic Herschell Carousel? Great news! The presentation is now up on running on the Friends of Stewart Park YouTube channel. Even better news! The live presentation had some technical issues that have been edited out, making for a smoother viewing experience and a shorter runtime. Please share the video with anyone and everyone you think would enjoy it!

Save the Dates:

Friends of Stewart Park is seeking a Fundraising Coordinator. This part-time, permanent staff position has some flexibility for remote work and hours. Because FSP is returning to in-person work in the office and at meetings, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is requested. The Fundraising Coordinator should expect to work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events or meetings. Request more information by emailing FSPjobs@friendsofstewartpark.org.

REDUCING WASTE
Great news from our partners at Zero Waste Ithaca They have been working with the health department and businesses to develop and spread Bring Your Own Container practices to reduce waste in our area and our world! Zero Waste Ithaca members have been an incredible help in cleaning up Stewart Park, Cayuga Waterfront Trail and many other areas around Ithaca. Join them in bringing your own container, and check out their recent webinar with the founder of "Canada Reduces" to learn more about how you can curb your waste.
WINTER TRAIL MAINTENANCE
Winter is a great time to enjoy the Waterfront Trail! However, the only section of the Trail that receives winter maintenance is the stretch along Cass Park. City workers do their best to get the Trail there cleaned-off quickly after every snowfall. See the map.

Friends of Stewart Park is a non-profit organization with a mission to enhance, revitalize and maintain Stewart Park and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, in partnership with the City of Ithaca and park stakeholders, for the enjoyment of Ithaca residents and visitors to our community.
