Wharton Studio Museum's 11th Annual Silent Movie Under the Stars is this coming Saturday, August 28, at Taughannock Falls State Park! We're thrilled to be showing Sherlock Holmes, a 1916 film that was thought lost. It was "found", and then restored by the Cinematheque Francaise and San Francisco Silent Film Festival. An original recorded score by Neil Brand Ensemble accompanies the film. The screening is FREE. A $5 per vehicle parking fee in the park benefits WSM. Bring a picnic, lawn chair, blanket and sweater and arrive early to enjoy Taughannock and its views of Cayuga Lake. Live string music by Rick Manning (mandolin, fiddle) and Tom Hodgson (guitar) between 6:45pm and 8pm. The movie rolls at sunset -- around 8:10pm. See you there!

This Centennial year has certainly been one to remember! There have been many ups and downs, including a planned Covid-safe summer of fun events that were significantly dampened by storms, park closure and rain. At this point, planning an outdoor music event around the wettest summer in ages and the constantly moving goalposts of pandemic safety and guidance feels daunting.
As much as we hate to do so, we've decided to cancel Watermusic for 2021. We hope that summer 2022 will be safe, dry and fun for everyone and Watermusic will return, better than ever.

CASCADILLA BOATHOUSE RESTORATION
Restoration of the exterior of the Cascadilla Boathouse is coming along nicely! Most of the building's siding has now been replaced and painted, and the trim has been restored and painted, as well. This important and exciting work to the iconic Boathouse, which is on the National Register of historic Place, is made possible by a $367,000 grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, written by Historic Ithaca, with additional support from the City of Ithaca and Friends of Stewart Park.
Thanks to Bouley Associates of Auburn with Verdigris Construction/Julie Kitson Construction Management, Bero Associates, and Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects for their continued work on this project!

FSP is currently finalizing details on more free virtual centennial programming for fall! Stay tuned for talks on Ithaca's world renowned ragtime bandleader Patrick Conway, Water Quality of Cayuga Lake, the Cayuga Waterfront Trail and more!
